I have been self-tracking my phone usage, places, travel, sleep, fitness and mood in 2016 on my iPhone using Instant. Going through the data I have been setting monthly goals to boost my productivity and fitness.
I managed to reduce my daily iPhone usage from about an average of 3.5 hours down to 2.5 hours. I was spending too much time on social media everyday, I realised that seeing my weekly reports and daily limit. (Which I have been sharing on Instagram & Twitter as well) I saw that setting a limit/goal is useful as a feedback loop while lifelogging. This has helped boost my overall productivity in a big way.
I have always had a sweet tooth, consuming desserts almost everyday due to which I was slightly overweight last year. Keeping track of my daily walking time in Instant and weight on my Withings scale has been really helpful. I managed to drop 7.5 kgs this year! I did that by taking a few short walks throughout the day, some weight training and also dropping a few deserts. This is definitely one of my proudest achievements from 2016.
Goals for 2017
As we have been working on the next big Instant update, I have been beta testing goals from the past few weeks. I am aiming on making my sleep routine more consistent so I don’t feel groggy in the morning and have more energy throughout the day. I also have started journalling my mood and daily habits with our new app Journaly. Will be sharing results from there soon. Later in the year, I also plan to start exploring ways I can reduce my travel time since I spend an average of about 2 hours travelling even though I walk to office. (Let’s see if I can get into the habit to lifelog some everyday videos with the Snap Spectacles 😎)
I am glad that the Quantified Self movement seems to be improving my life for the better, really excited for the upcoming year! Looking forward to hearing from your about your 2017 lifelogging goals.
